Claudia Chaves was born in Recife, Brazil, and after graduating in natural science and computer science in her native country, she worked in her family's sugar business for eleven years. Claudia moved to the united States in 1989 and re-entered the food industry in 2001, when she when she joined Ciranda, Inc., an organic-food ingredient trading company.In 2003, she was invited by Mel-O-Hone–a honey processing company in Minnesota–– to develop and establish reliable Organic honey production in South America. From 2006 to 2008 she had a long term contract with Grain Milles working as an independent sourcing agent for natural sweeteners and honey.
Claudia currently consults as an independent global sourcing agent for natural, organic and fair trade food ingredients, primaraly with sweeteners, honey and bee products. She lives in Minneapolis, MN and has two children, Lara and Arthur.
